Underwrites facultative property and casualty business in accordance with MROC's guidelines and philosophy and within the limits authorized by the Head of Department. Evaluates submissions, assesses and rates risks and performs all necessary underwriting functions in order to accept or decline risks and offers alternative terms and conditions on risks, which are presented at unacceptable terms to MROC. Maintains business rapport with existing cedents through market visits and develops new desirable sources of business. Markets the products and services of MROC and particularly of the Property Department and produces business to achieve the department's marketing and production goals. Promotes MROC products, services and facilities and maintains and/or builds business relationships with cedents at various levels. Monitors market conditions and the activities of MROC's existing and potential property/casualty facultative cedents and reinsurance competitors and reports to Management as needed. Ensures that fast and efficient service is provided to our clients. Handles and issues facultative closing, binders, quotations, cover notes, endorsements, renewals and checks monthly automatic bordereaus. Keeps the Heads of department informed of department's activities. Ensures that inspections are carried out by our cedents as required by the guidelines and ensures prompt issuance of inspection reports. Prepares and performs seminars for our cedents as required. Prepares reports as may be required. Assists in continuing development and organization of property and casualty department Some travel within Canada on a regular basis Post-secondary education with focus on business. CIP/FCIP/CRM designation or progression towards would be an asset. 5 to 10 years of progressive commercial underwriting experience. Prior commercial underwriting experience with focus on construction and civil projects. Experience with boiler and machinery would be considered an asset. Solid grasp of commercial property and casualty insurance products combined with good knowledge of the insurance industry. Previous experience with insurance business development and sales would be an asset. Ability to build strong relationships with both clients and colleagues. High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and proven ability to work independently. Excellent analytical, negotiating and investigative competencies. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong leadership skills, with capacity to motivate others amongst the team. High degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environment and situations. Strong computer ability and working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability and willingness to travel.
